Fun Unit #1: Skydiving

ABOUT THE CLASS

The skydiving unit is taught by Rubenelle Lisoba, a licensed skydiving teacher who has her own skydiving company, The High Flyers. She is teaching advanced skydiving to those in our younger grades (10 years or younger) and some specially-selected adults (Rubenelle's parents). There may be adult supervision there, but probably only for a brief amount of time, if there is any at all. At Chestnut Hill Primary, we believe in free-range teaching. Rubenelle promises that the skydiving will be safe. When asked how many skydiving sessions Rubenelle plans to have, she answered, "we don't know yet."

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

We searched for Rubenelle, and found this picture of her.

She is the one in front. She says that she is a six-year-old, but also claims to be licensed. Her mom is Gwen Lisoba, and her dad is Dennis Baxter-Gphangez Selcsum-Gnorts. She also has two sisters, Fiona and McKenna. To find out more about Rubenelle and her family, just go to the blog they made. Gwen is allowing Rubenelle to do this. Shen I asked her about it, she said "She [Rubenelle] has been training for six years. She did it as a baby. She loved it." When we asked Dennis if he allowed Rubenelle, his daughter, to do this, he said, "She has shown competence. She's ready." Both of Rubenelle's parents will be at the skydiving session, and some more people may come.

COMING TO THE CLASS

When you come to the class, you have to show a piece of paper that was given to you earlier by Rubenelle. The other instructors (decided by Rubenelle) will get paid, although it is not known how much. The classes will last an indeterminate amount of time, and the students will be given sandwiches and proper skydiving rope. Students are not allowed to bring their own skydiving harnesses or ropes, because Rubenelle is worried that other students' skydiving equipment will not be safe. For a six-year-old who has never attended Chestnut Hill Primary, she sounds competent.

Lily,

Dennis,

and Gwen actually went skydiving. Surprisingly, Rubenelle wasn't even there.

There were special hooks on the harnesses that allowed the harnesses to be connected.

Although Audrina Chalbany didn't go skydiving, she was there to watch.
